British Airport Authority (BAA)
The BAA website has links to websites for some major British airports. Each has a section for people travelling who have special health needs. The information includes airport layout and tips about planning your trip.
If your local airport isn’t listed on this site, type the name of the airport you’re looking for into an internet search engine (Google or Yahoo for example) and you should find it fairly easily.
Disability Living Foundation
The DLF offers advice about disability and mobility equipment.
Macmillan Cancer Support
Macmillan Cancer Support offers grants and financial advice. You can contact them on 0808 808 0000 (Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm).
National Rail Enquiries
The National Rail Enquiries website has details of all the train companies, and who to contact to arrange help if you need it. Most companies say to contact them at least 24 hours before you travel.
RADAR (Royal Association for Disability Rights)
RADAR with Tourism for All produce the book ‘OpenBritain' guide which includes ideas of where to go, places to eat and lists a range of accommodation offering specialist services. You can order it from their website for £12.49 which includes postage in the UK.
The Red Cross
The Red Cross offer a transport service. This can include an escort if you need one. They can also lend you equipment.
Tourism for All
Tourism for All provides information about accessible accommodation to people with disabilities and older people. Includes information about respite care.
