Grandparents and children sharing tips and storiesOne year after breast cancer treatment

From Lesley Nicholson in Kent

It has been over a year since I finished my treatment for breast cancer. I had all the works: surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and now 5 years of tamoxifen.

I am so grateful for the treatment even though at times it was upnleasant. I am so thankful for the ongoing cancer research and the tireless fundraising for people like me.

I was so lucky to have the support of my family and friends and they gave me the strength to carry on and, hey, I am still here today!

I am so grateful to be alive to see my 5 month old grandson grow each day. I cherish each day and look forward to the future, something I didn't allow myself to do a year ago!

My first check up is in January 2009, ironically the same day that I was told I had breast cancer in January 2007. I have had a good year and my hopes are that I will have another one in 2009!

There can be light at the end of the tunnel - all you have to do is to stay positive, be happy and smile.
