A study to find out what people think about human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination and testing

Please note this trial is no longer recruiting patients.

This study is part of a larger project called the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) Core Messages Study. It is looking at the scientific evidence about HPV as well as finding out people’s views on it. Based on this, the aim is to develop messages that could help people make informed decisions about HPV testing and vaccination.

Researchers have already talked to girls and their parents or guardians, about the HPV vaccination programme. They are now looking at all the research that has been done looking at the HPV virus and what people think of vaccination and testing.

In the next part of the study, the researchers are sending a postal questionnaire to a large number of adults in England and Wales.

The aim is to find out

  • What people know about HPV vaccination and testing
  • What they think about the vaccination programme and HPV testing as part of cervical cancer screening.

Studying what people’s views are will help the study team to see how the current information about HPV could be improved.

Who can enter

You cannot volunteer to join this study. People between the ages of 18 and 64 who are registered with specific GP practices in England and Wales will be sent a letter asking them to take part.

Trial design

People who agree to take part will be asked to fill out a questionnaire. It will ask questions on what they know about HPV, what they think of vaccination and testing, and what sort of information they need to make decisions about this.

Hospital visits

There are no hospital visits as part of this study. You fill out the questionnaire at home. It should take about 20 minutes. You then send it back to the study team in a prepaid envelope that is provided.
