Radiotherapy for persistent disease and choriocarcinoma
This page tells you about radiotherapy for persistent trophoblastic disease and choriocarcinoma, which are types of tumours known as gestational trophoblastic tumours (GTTs). Radiotherapy is not used very often to treat this type of cancer.
Women whose GTT has spread to the brain may have stereotactic radiotherapy, which gives a high dose of radiotherapy to the brain tumour. There is detailed information about stereotactic radiotherapy in the radiotherapy section of CancerHelp UK.
You may have external radiotherapy with chemotherapy to reduce symptoms caused by GTTs that have spread from the womb to other parts of the body. But this treatment is not used very often.
Because radiotherapy is rarely used for these tumours we have not included detailed information here. The radiotherapy section of CancerHelp UK has information about radiotherapy and its possible side effects.
