Cancer Research UK is the largest cancer research organisation in the world, outside the USA. We are the European leader in the development of new anti-cancer drugs. We fund research on all aspects of the disease from its causes, to treatment and prevention, education and psychological support for patients.

We are also committed to producing high quality information for people affected by cancer, health professionals and the general public. We do this through our websites CancerHelp UK , News and resources and through our range of health awareness leaflets.

Specific women's cancer organisations and sites

You can ask at your local health centre or GP's surgery for details of Well Woman and Genito-urinary clinics in your area. You can have a smear done at these clinics. They may also be listed in your local telephone directory.

A charity set up by the cosmetics industry. Volunteer beauty therapists provide skincare and make up workshops for women undergoing cancer treatment. All guests are provided with a goodie bag. It has been running for 12 years and workshops are held in 40 hospitals across the UK. Find your nearest workshop and read more about the work of the charity on their website.

This is a national charity offering information and support to anyone affected by lymphoedema. They have over 3500 members, 66 local support groups, run a helpline and have a website. They also produce a range of information including 25 factsheets about lymphoedema and its treatment, 2 DVDs about self management techniques for lymphoedema and a quarterly newsletter. 

The European Consortium for Cervical Cancer Education
The European Consortium for Cervical Cancer Education is a Europe wide project dedicated to informing the public, doctors and Governments about cervical cancer and the role of HPV. There is some patient information and a page of useful links. There are also news and research sections. The site is available in 12 European languages.

National Cancer Institute
The American National Cancer Institute's patient information on cervical cancer is detailed and comprehensive but there are no images. They use more technical terms and have longer 'pages' than CancerHelp UK.

This charity provides information on gynaecological and sexual aspects of women’s health including some gynaecological cancers. They have a team of specialist nurses and medical advisers who will answer email or postal enquiries.  They ask for a £5 donation for this service. They also publish information leaflets.

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. They provide booklets on cancer and treatments and run a helpline providing cancer information and benefits advice.

This organisation helps women and men with their sexual and reproductive healthcare. They provide cervical smear tests at their centres in Bristol, London and Leeds. They are currently offering a cervical smear test for £50 (usually £105). You can be tested for HPV virus as well for a total of £205.
