Mucosal melanoma is a rare type of melanoma. Melanoma usually starts in the skin, but can occur in other parts of the body. Rarely, it can start in the mucosal tissue which lines the nose and mouth, the food pipe (oesophagus), the anus, and the vulva and vagina in women. It is then called mucosal melanoma.
