Receptors

Receptors are particular proteins that cells have. When certain other proteins attach to the receptor this triggers a reaction in the cell. There are many different receptors. Each triggers a different reaction. Triggering some receptors makes cells grow and divide into new cells. Others tell cells to stop growing or die. Some cancer cells have more receptors than normal cells, which triggers the cancer cells to grow. Some cancer treatments work by targeting specific receptors.
