A stroke is damage to part of the brain due to a lack of blood supply. A stroke can happen when a blood vessel bursts or gets blocked. It can result in many problems, including paralysis and speech loss, and sometimes unconsciousness or death. It is also called a cerebrovascular accident (CVA).
